About The Position

This position is for a Jr. Geologist, Summer Student, based in Nunavut, Canada. The role involves supporting exploration programs and requires a rotation of 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off, fly-in/fly-out. The position reports to the Geotechnical Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Completion of two (2) years of education in a Geology program from a recognized university or college.
  • Physically able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and able to walk and stand for long periods of time performing physical labour.
  • Ability to work on a rotational basis.
  • Working rights in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a remote camp environment.
  • Experience in field mapping, performing geotechnical and core logging activities, and sampling.
  • WHIMS Certification and/or Level 1 First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Support exploration programs, including drilling, geophysical programs, channel sampling, mapping and till sampling.
  • Prepare drill core for logging by piercing, rotating, and cleaning the rocks, taking measurements of recovery, RQD, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity and setting meter marks along the drill core. Most drill core will be oriented.
  • Cut the drill core and prepare sample shipments.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings to promote compliance to B2Gold’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize health and safety in all aspects of work.
