About The Position

The Junior Communications Systems Engineer will assist the Communications Engineering team in reviewing critical network communications systems for rail-transit infrastructure projects. This role ensures that all systems meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. The position involves close collaboration with project teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and compliant communication solutions that support safe and effective rail operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience/education)
  • Certification in CAD/Drafting (or equivalent experience/education)
  • Familiar with CAD software such Bentley/MicroStation, REVIT, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
  • Familiar with project management and design workflow tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Highly organized with strong time management capabilities
  • Physically able to navigate construction sites (standing, climbing, stooping, crouching)
  • Willingness to work outdoors and conduct field surveys
  • Willingness to travel across New York City’s five boroughs for fieldwork
  • Comfortable in all weather conditions and high-noise environments

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise design drawings and 3D models for rail-transit infrastructure projects
  • Translate engineering sketches, specifications, and calculations into detailed technical documents
  • Ensure all drawings and models meet applicable industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field staff to support design development and problem-solving
  • Maintain organized digital drawing files, records, and supporting documentation
  • Assist in developing bills of materials and parts lists based on design documents
  • Participate in design and constructability reviews; provide technical input and clarification as needed
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CAD-related issues efficiently
  • Stay informed on emerging CAD technologies and industry best practices
  • Support field surveys and installations as required by project phases
  • Assist in producing and reviewing detailed sub-system layouts for rail-transit communications systems, including but not limited to fiber optic and IP backbone networks, radio systems, integrated communications platforms, passenger information systems, CCTV, telephony, SCADA, train control, intrusion detection, access control, and fire alarm systems
  • Assist in producing and reviewing comprehensive design documents such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network layouts, cable schedules, bills of materials, radio/optical link budgets, and related deliverables
  • Assist in compiling Issued-for-Construction (IFC) drawing and document packages
  • Assist in producing, reviewing, and analyzing Fiber Optic (FO) testing reports to verify that physical infrastructure meets performance standards and design specifications
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, etc.)
