The Jr. BIM Coordinator will support digital construction activities through development of 3D models, coordination of design information, and production of model-based deliverables. This role will contribute to model coordination, quantity extraction, and construction planning across project phases. The Hamilton LRT Alliance has been selected by Metrolinx as the development partner for the Hamilton LRT – Package 1: Civil & Utilities. Under the alliance model, Aecon provides construction capability and resources as part of an integrated team, working collaboratively with all alliance participants to progress design, cost, and construction schedules during the project’s development phase. Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, CAD/BIM, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • 1–4 years of experience in CAD/BIM or 3D modeling within infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with CDE platforms (e.g., ProjectWise, ACC, BIM 360).
  • Understanding of construction drawings, sequencing, and coordination workflows.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on model accuracy and data integrity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Availability to work fully in-person 5 days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Navisworks for clash detection is an asset.
  • Experience with quantity extraction and model-based deliverables is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Development of 3D models using Civil 3D (mandatory skill): Permanent works (as directed), Temporary works and construction sequencing elements, Existing conditions and background modelling
  • Provide CADD support for site coordination drawings.
  • Run initial clash detection in Navisworks using predefined rules
  • Extract quantities from models using established workflows
  • Assist in: Updating quantities across design milestones and Preparing quantity reports for review by Coordinator.
  • Perform basic CAD quality checks, including Layering, naming, and standards compliance.
  • Assist in Model coordination of critical shop drawings, Preparing drawings for review workflows.
  • Prepare models for use in 4D simulations, Lookahead planning (e.g., 4-week plans).
  • Support linking model elements to scheduling activities (as directed).
  • Upload and organize files within the Common Data Environment (e.g., ProjectWise)
  • Maintain File naming and metadata compliance, Version control under supervision, ensure models and drawings follow approval workflows.
  • Assist in capturing and processing Field redlines and markups, Site photos and inspection data.
  • Update models/drawings with Approved field changes, Support development of as-built models and drawings.
