Under general direction of the Director and depending on the specific vacancy, this classification may supervise subordinate staff of Humane Officers engaged in the investigation of complaints and impounding of stray, uncontrolled, or diseased animals. It may be responsible for the supervision of promoting and facilitating pet transports/transfers. May supervise the developing and implementing of enrichment and training programs to improve animal health and adaptability. Depending on the vacancy, the employee may supervise JPAWS Care Attendants and be responsible for departmental functions related to animal care, and staff management. Employees in this classification perform supervisory and administrative work. Supervises the daily operations of the JPAWS facility, ensuring humane treatment, safety, and welfare of all animals under the care of JPAWS. Position is responsible for training, guiding, and directing officers, and assisting with court duties, as well as animal related activities. Directly leads, develops, oversees and evaluates the animal behavior and enrichment teams and processes to ensure an exceptional experience for the animals in the organizations care. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
