About The Position

TRIUMF's state-of-the-art Machine Shop specializes in translating physicists’ vision into prototypes and one-of-a-kind experimental components. This is often an iterative process in which scientists, designers and machinists work back-and-forth to create unique components that must meet extreme tolerances for vacuum, cryogenics, and high-precision measurement. We are looking to hire an experienced Journeyperson Machinist to join this exciting team. The primary function of this role involves the manufacture, fabrication, and repair of experimental equipment, instrumentation, and systems as part of TRIUMF's program of work.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of MasterCAM software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
  • Foundation knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • BCTQ Machinist Red Seal certification with a focus on CNC machining.
  • Four (4) year experience as a red seal Machinist.
  • Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up, program, and operate CNC machines to produce complex components.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
  • Monitor and adjust machine settings to ensure precision and adherence to specified tolerances.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of finished products to verify conformance to design and quality standards.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs using MasterCAM or FUSION 360 software.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling, programming, or machine malfunctions.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Comply with quality control procedures and industry standards.
  • Work closely with engineering and design teams to interpret specifications and ensure accurate machining processes.
  • Provide input on process improvements and efficiency enhancements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, cutting-edge technologies, and machining best practices to perpetually elevate skills and contribute to the growth of the team.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to less-experienced machinists.
