About The Position

The Journeyman Tradesworker performs skilled work of maintaining, repairing, and improving County buildings, property, and systems. This is a full-time, field position that requires frequent travel throughout Citrus County. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing County buildings, property, systems, and equipment, with a primary focus on plumbing and a secondary emphasis on carpentry, painting, drywall, and related tasks. The position also assists with office reorganizations and requires maintaining knowledge of building codes and standards. The Journeyman Tradesworker will read and interpret technical illustrations, operate specialized tools, perform routine maintenance inspections, and participate in an on-call rotation for holidays, nights, and weekends. All employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency, potentially performing duties outside their normal scope.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Formal training, special courses, or self-education equivalent to one year of college education or specialized advanced training.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in plumbing.
  • Working knowledge of various power tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints, building plans, and repair manuals.
  • Good understanding of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work well with others; maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Perform basic computer tasks such as checking and sending emails, filling out online forms, gathering information, and logging into various accounts and systems.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours (including holidays, nights, and weekends).
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System.
  • Requires standing and walking most of the day.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to and greater than 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders.
  • Completion of tasks involving simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment.
  • Occasionally working in darkness and operating a manual transmission.
  • Normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, pre-employment physical examination, and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of locksmithing is desirable.
  • Plumbing and carpentry certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs County buildings, property, systems, and equipment.
  • Works on renovation and new construction projects, focusing primarily on plumbing and secondarily on carpentry, painting, drywall, and drywall finishing.
  • Performs all work generally associated with rough and finish carpentry.
  • Assists with office reorganizations, including moving and/or installing furniture.
  • Maintains knowledge of building and operational codes and standards.
  • Reads, interprets, and follows detailed technical illustrations such as plans, maps, surveys, and diagrams.
  • Operates specialized tools and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance inspections.
  • Performs work duties during an on-call rotation for holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Performs emergency response/recovery activities as required.
