About The Position

Samson Electric, Inc. is looking for a skilled professional with strong knowledge of electrical installation and repair. The ideal candidate can diagnose and fix complex systems independently and communicate technical information clearly and professionally to customers. A valid driver’s license and prior field experience are required. Candidates should be familiar with commercial/industrial construction standards and commercial tenant improvements. They must be able to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, and sketches, and perform layout work. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and low-voltage systems—such as power distribution, lighting, motor control, fire alarm, data, telecom, and security—is essential. The role includes mentoring apprentices and modeling safe work practices. We value flexibility, honesty, dependability, and consistent quality workmanship. Travel to remote sites and availability for swing, weekend, or night shifts may be required.

Requirements

  • Experienced, professional, full-time Service Journeyman Electricians
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Prior field experience
  • Familiarity with commercial/industrial construction standards and commercial tenant improvements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, and sketches
  • Ability to perform layout work
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and low-voltage systems (power distribution, lighting, motor control, fire alarm, data, telecom, and security)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or possess valid legal work authorization for employment verification through I-9 and E-Verify.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and agree to participate in random, return-to-work (RTW), post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing as required.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must maintain a current State of Alaska Fitness Card and valid driver’s license and promptly report any changes in license status to Samson.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating equipment like excavators, trenchers, boom trucks, and bucket trucks
  • Proficiency with tools such as pipe threaders and conduit benders
  • Strong math skills
  • Correct use of NEC tables

Responsibilities

  • Participate in safety programs and training
  • Use test equipment to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues
  • Communicate professionally with foremen and coworkers
  • Exercise sound judgment and escalate issues when needed
  • Order and install materials; document redlines
  • Arrive on time daily with required tools and PPE
  • Report incidents, harassment, or safety concerns promptly
  • Accurately complete timecards and cost coding
  • Stay current on NEC/NFPA, NESC, and OSHA standards
  • Perform work that meets QA/QC and inspection standards
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Train and mentor electrical apprentices
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance
  • Prioritize tasks and work flexibly across teams
  • Ascend and descend ladders, equipment, lifts, and various work platforms safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain stability and balance while working at elevated heights, including ladders, lifts, and leading edges.
  • Walk briskly across uneven terrain, concrete, and other surface types.
  • Perform overhead reaching, stretching, bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and squatting for extended periods (2–3 hours).
  • Utilize hand, arm, and fine motor skills—with or without tools—for sustained durations (3–4 hours).
  • Execute physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy materials and operating power tools overhead or on vertical surfaces for prolonged periods (3–4 hours), across full ranges of motion without undue strain or movement limitations.
  • Work at heights using ladders, lifts, buckets, and booms to install conduit, wiring, lighting, and related components.
  • Safely lift and transport items weighing between 50–75 pounds without injury.
  • Accurately identify wire gauges, color distinctions (especially blues and greens), and pipe sizes.
  • Interpret and apply technical instructions and information to the task at hand.
  • Maintain focus and mental alertness during hands-on labor.
  • Apply mechanical and mathematical problem-solving skills to complete work effectively.
