About The Position

Nelson Electric is looking for a dependable Journeyman Service Electrician to join our Ames Service Department. This role will involve working on various residential, commercial, and light-agricultural projects in Central Iowa. The ideal candidate will be a productive team member, deliver a quality product, maintain good customer relations, and complete project documentation. We are seeking candidates with a proven ability to be on time, demonstrate a great work ethic, and are willing to learn continuously.

Requirements

  • State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman, or Master Electrician License.
  • Proven ability to be on time.
  • Demonstrate a great work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn continuously throughout their career.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Experience bending and installing EMT.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting LV Fire Alarm systems.
  • Experience with knob and tube wiring (demolition and replacement).
  • Experience with data cabling and cable terminations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs overhead, and routinely lift 100 lbs to waist height.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to wear all PPE required (PPE supplied by the company).
  • Ability to work in all-weather temperatures/climates.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, and post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Nice To Haves

  • EV charger installation experience preferred.
  • Cabinet print reading experience preferred.
  • Lighting controls experience preferred.
  • Generator startup experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of and adherence to the National Electrical Code, including any local amendments.
  • Installation of electrical systems including the layout, rough-in, and trim of lighting, power, and low voltage systems.
  • Independently testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and maintaining malfunctioning systems, components, and equipment.
  • Inspection of systems and equipment to identify hazards and/or defects, and correcting unsafe conditions.
  • Ensuring delivery of a quality product.
  • Managing time with respect to multiple jobs, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Managing material, including returns, so that jobs are completed timely and efficiently.
  • Commitment to all safety procedures and engaging in safety training.
  • Ability to direct, manage, and instruct Apprentice and Helper Electricians in applicable aspects of the electrical trade.
  • Coordinate with other contractors as needed.
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely, neat, and organized manner.
  • Ensure job documentation is completed, including tracking and reporting any changes made in the field.
  • Keep worksite, vehicles, and tools clean and complete maintenance as needed.
  • Use equipment safely and return in good condition.
  • Ability to read and interpret job drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to be on an on-call rotation for emergency after hours work.
