Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the electrical systems for the Blue Valley plant and six gas turbine generator units. Regularly inspects power plant electrical equipment; diagnoses trouble and performs necessary overhaul and maintenance, keeping accurate records of inspections and repair; reports regularly to the supervisor on the operating conditions of electrical wiring, equipment and devices, and recommend major overhaul or replacement; installs or repairs conduit and wiring; repairs equipment and control circuits; installs and repairs indicating lights and other signaling equipment; participates in the overhaul or repair of automatic switchgear, synchronous motors, turbo generators, motor-driven pumps, and transformers; assembles and installs electrical equipment and components. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be Journeyman Electrician, with four (4) years prior experience as an industrial electrician, including diagnostic circuitry and AC-DC experience, preferably in a power plant or other heavy industrial electrical work assignment. Valid Driver’s License required. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of electrical switchgear, motors, wiring, and all other electrical equipment utilized in a power generating plant and electrical and general safety requirements in performing work duties. Ability to communicate in the English language, both oral and written and learn new skills and procedures as required. Skilled in use of mechanical hand tools, precision instruments and electrical meters for troubleshooting. Typical Physical Demands: Work is performed in an industrial setting consisting of both outside and inside tasks. Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, reach overhead, negotiate stairs and ramps, climb ladders, climb and work from scaffolding and other high platforms. Must be able to lift 75 pounds (plus or minus). Should be able to stand, work, and maintain balance on hard, narrow and uneven surfaces, work in confined areas, have good eyesight and hearing; able to work in confined spaces and with respirator facemask. Typical Working Conditions: Industrial environment of smoke, fumes, noise, chemicals, open flames, sparks, exposed electrical conductors, rotating machinery, overhead hazards, hot piping/machinery, and airborne pollutants. Under emergency conditions may be required to work in extreme hot or cold surroundings, including with heavy Arc-Flash protective equipment. May be called in for emergency or unusual situations during off-duty hours. Drug testing will be required.
