About The Position

Great Lakes Energy is looking for a journeyman or utility lineworker to work out of our Waters district professionally maintaining, constructing, and providing emergency restoration of electric distribution systems. For over 85 years, we have powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. We serve over 128,000 meters as the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company. We prioritize enriching the lives of our community members. Requirements

  • Completed a DOL-certified apprenticeship training program, including 7000 hours of on-the-job training.
  • Recognized as a utility or journeyman lineworker.
  • Unrestricted CDL with group A designation and air brake endorsement.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Deep sense of responsibility to coworkers and the company.
  • Passion for linework and knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Focus on safety to ensure everyone makes it home safely.

Responsibilities

  • Professionally maintaining, constructing, and providing emergency restoration of electric distribution systems.
  • Power restoration, power line construction, maintenance and repair of existing power lines and emergency call-outs.
  • Working safely and efficiently to get the job done.
  • Assisting other service areas during storm work when necessary.
