About The Position

The Journeyman Mechanic/Millwright is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment and fixed plant systems to ensure assets remain safe, reliable, and production-ready. This role involves performing diagnostics, mechanical/hydraulic repairs, and preventive maintenance in alignment with site procedures. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot, weld, fabricate, and work in challenging conditions such as underground or at high elevations. The role also includes documenting and closing out CMMS work orders, supporting rigging activities, assisting with root-cause troubleshooting, and identifying/staging parts. Additionally, the Journeyman Mechanic/Millwright will recommend follow-up repairs, component replacements, and improvements to reduce downtime, and escalate unsafe conditions, repeat failures, or critical equipment down events.

Requirements

  • Proven experience performing tasks with limited supervision.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and work procedures.
  • Proficiency with trade tasks such as Fabrication, Hand Tools, Hydraulics, Lubrication, Material Handling, Oxy-Fuel, Pneumatics, and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Demonstrated work practices including Communication, Problem Solving, Teamwork, and Time Management.
  • Relevant credentials as applicable: Rigger/Signal Person (as applicable).
  • OSHA 10 in the construction industry and MSHA preferred.
  • Cut, fit, and fabricate parts per drawings for field repairs and installs.
  • Use hand tools safely and effectively for trade tasks.
  • Service hydraulic circuits (hoses, valves, cylinders) and verify performance.
  • Follow OEM and customer recommendations for lubricants and intervals; maintain lube routes and records.
  • Move, stage, and secure materials safely per procedures.
  • Perform oxy-fuel per standards and procedures.
  • Maintain pneumatic systems (lines, regulators, actuators) per spec.
  • Perform preventive maintenance per schedules and OEM guidance.
  • Assist with rigging and controlled moves under qualified supervision.
  • Perform precision alignment to tolerance (thermal growth as applicable).
  • Perform structural and repair welds per procedure and visual standards.
  • Perform work order per standards and procedures.
  • Support qualified rigger/signal person workflows.
  • Mentoring and supporting Mechanic/Millwright Level 1 employees.
  • Reading Drawings/Isometrics.
  • Root Cause Thinking.
  • Prioritization.
  • Documentation Quality (CMMS/work orders).
  • Safety Awareness and PPE Use.

  • 4 year apprenticeship and documentation of continued employment preferred.
