About The Position

This role involves operating manual and potentially CNC machines to produce high-quality parts within tight tolerances and specific finishes. The position requires a strong understanding of machining processes, the ability to interpret blueprints, and meticulous attention to detail. The machinist will be responsible for setup, operation, inspection, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Active participation in a team-based environment and accurate timekeeping are also essential.

Requirements

  • Must hold Journeyman’s certification from an accredited program
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5+ years prototype machining experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and / or production planning
  • Ability and willingness to use basic hand tools and measuring devices (i.e. - dial calipers, rulers, tape measures, protractors, micrometers, gauges, etc.) as required within department
  • Ability to lift/ push/ pull up to 35 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years machine shop/prior aerospace engines machining experience
  • Experience with set-up and operations of any 2 of the following computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining processes: drilling, milling, grinding, turning
  • Ability to use computers and learn Microsoft Office
  • Education and/or training in machine shop operations
  • Understanding of CNC and manual machine operations
  • Basic programming knowledge to include reading editing of programs
  • Experience in a self-directed team environment
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Machine all types of metals
  • Generate and check part dimensions during various machining stages with complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, special purpose gauges, and scales
  • Operate manual machines, such as: Bridgeport mill, engine lathe, manual pedestal grinder, and broach
  • Achieve all required tolerances (as tight as .0005) and finishes that will produce quality parts in a timely manner and for meeting standards as set forth by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality
  • Ensure all characteristics generated at designated operation are conforming through use of applicable inspection techniques
  • Perform setup and operation of equipment to drawings, method sheets, etc., but may be required to supplement this information with own job knowledge on occasion
  • May be required on a temporary basis, to train operators to use certain equipment which the individual is qualified to
  • Responsible for keeping facilities, material and work area orderly exercising care in their use, maintaining good housekeeping practices
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety requirements and all quality
  • Actively participate in a team-based environment which includes: Active participation in daily team meetings and activities, cooperating and relating well with others, practicing direct professional communication with team members, and being open to new ideas from team members and considers opinions different from their own
  • Voucher or account for own time accurately using the prescribed system, as well as, electronically maintain records
