About The Position

This role involves repairing machinery, mechanical, and electrical equipment. The Journeyman Machinery Maintenance Mechanic will examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose trouble, dismantle and repair machinery using hand tools, and replace or order replacement parts. The position requires conversing with operators to identify issues, testing faulty equipment, and maintaining records of repairs and calibrations. Responsibilities also include reading blueprints and diagrams, assembling parts, routing cables and wires, installing components, and testing units to ensure proper operation. The role may involve disassembling, repairing, and replacing electrical components and devices in military shelters and vans, as well as fabricating and wiring meter boxes. Participation in team-based repair and installation, both in-house and on TDY assignments, is expected. The position also includes performing all other assigned or requested duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Three years' experience working on industrial equipment and / or three years' doing metal fabrication
  • Be able to obtain and retain a forklift operators license
  • Valid state-issued drivers license.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
  • Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble.
  • Dismantle or partly dismantle machines and perform repairs using hand tools, scraping and fitting parts.
  • Replace broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock; order production of replacement parts or send machine for major repairs.
  • Prepare written specifications for major repairs or for production of parts.
  • Reassemble machines and make necessary adjustments for operation.
  • Converse with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems.
  • Test faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
  • Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects.
  • Replace defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts.
  • Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to specifications.
  • Calibrate testing instruments.
  • Maintain records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.
  • Enter information into computer to copy programs, draw, modify, or store schematics.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings.
  • Align and assemble parts such as leads, coils, wires, tabs, and terminals into housing.
  • Route and lace cables.
  • Install components and parts such as switches, coils, transformers, relays, transistors, and semiconductor circuits.
  • Route and attach wires and connectors to form circuitry and connect assembly to power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes.
  • Attach hardware and seal assembly.
  • Examine parts for defects such as pinholes or chips.
  • Test operate unit to locate defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, and verify specified operation.
  • Replace defective components and wiring.
  • Calibrate unit according to specifications.
  • Enter information on production records, logs, and other report forms.
  • Repair defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.
  • Install and test a variety of electrical lines and circuits to components, devices, and fixtures in military shelters and vans.
  • Install wire mold, raceways and/or conduits and fittings, replace or install wires by pulling wire through wire mold or conduit and connecting to electric fixtures or components.
  • Disassemble, repair, troubleshoot, and/or replace wire mold, wires, and electrical components and devices.
  • Build or fabricate and wire phase meter boxes, power distribution boxes, and other meter boxes, as needed.
  • Perform disassembly and assembly work in a number of shelters and vans.
  • Participate as a member of a team in the repair and installation of equipment both in-house and on TDY assignments.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Enforce safety culture and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Complete all training requirements and fulfill self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities.
  • Participate in emergency response tasks and serve on safety committees and teams.
  • Conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.
