About The Position

Idaho Power Company (IPC) is looking for two Journeyman Lineworkers to join their Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Construction crews in Boise, Idaho. This role is critical in providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities across Idaho and Oregon. As a member of the T&D Construction Project Team, the Journeyman Lineworker will travel across Idaho Power’s service territories to perform construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines. Requirements

  • Knowledge of line core process of new business operations, outage response, planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Knowledge of line construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety and IPC safety program.
  • Skills in use of personal computers utilizing Microsoft products and time-entry software.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to identify purposes of commonly encountered materials, parts, and equipment used in lines construction.
  • Ability to maintain neat, accurate, and legible records.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and diagrams, plat maps, feeder maps, and work order maps.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certificate of completion of an Apprentice Lineworker training program recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA), including at least 4 years of relevant work experience OR 6 years documented experience as a lineworker in distribution and/or transmission, 2 of which must be documented at a journeyman level OR IPC employee currently or previously employed as a Journeyman Lineworker.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
  • Current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Applicant's body weight cannot exceed 300 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Travel and participate in the T&D hitch schedule – 8 days of travel within Idaho Power’s service territories and 6 days home.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines.
  • Travel across Idaho Power’s service territories.
  • Respond to outages outside of normal working hours.
  • Work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Work on-call rotation.
  • Establish positive working relationships with all team members and leadership.
  • May be required to rotate as a lead lineman on the crew.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of transformers at ground level and vault.
  • Climb utility poles to install/repair.
  • Install/replace cross arms and other equipment on poles.
  • Load and unload ATVs using a ramp.
  • Attach wire.
  • Use hotstick/shotgun.
  • Hike/carry tools up to several miles per day.
  • Dig holes for pole placement.
  • Perform above shoulder work.
  • Use a manual trimmer.
  • Input field work into record keeping software.
  • Complete an Employee Possessor Questionnaire form within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete required company and safety training.
