About The Position

Cannon Companies is seeking an experienced Non-Union Journeyman Lineman to support high-voltage electrical projects primarily on Federal Department of Defense (DoD) and military facilities throughout the United States. This position will perform high-voltage overhead, underground, and substation work, as well as Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) safety-watch responsibilities. The ideal candidate is an experienced, safety-focused lineman who has completed a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)-approved apprenticeship program and is comfortable working in a highly regulated federal environment. This is a 100% travel position with paid travel accommodations.

Requirements

  • DOL-approved Journeyman Lineman apprenticeship completion certificate – REQUIRED. Candidates must be able to provide documentation.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent Journeyman-level electrical line experience.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) – REQUIRED.
  • Experience with high-voltage overhead and underground electrical systems.
  • Experience working in or around high-voltage substations.
  • Knowledge and experience with QEW responsibilities and electrical safety-watch procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of energized and de-energized line work, grounding, rigging, electrical hazards, and high-voltage safety practices.
  • Ability to operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line-construction equipment.
  • Ability to climb poles and structures and work safely at elevated heights.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
  • U.S. citizenship required where mandated by applicable federal/DoD contract or site-access requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required military base/DoD facility access and badging.
  • Must be willing and able to travel 100% nationwide, including extended assignments.
  • Ability to work a 4x10 schedule and additional hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency callouts as project needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working on military installations, DoD facilities, or other federal projects.
  • Davis-Bacon/Prevailing Wage project experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Storm restoration or emergency-response experience.
  • Previous experience leading apprentices, groundmen, or field crews.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage overhead and underground electrical systems.
  • Perform electrical construction, maintenance, and repair work within high-voltage substations.
  • Safely perform work on or around energized and de-energized electrical systems using proper PPE, tools, grounding practices, and established procedures.
  • Perform Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) safety-watch responsibilities as required.
  • Install and replace poles, conductors, transformers, switches, insulators, crossarms, and other electrical line equipment.
  • Climb poles and structures and safely perform work at elevated heights.
  • Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line-construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide field guidance and leadership to groundmen, apprentices, and other crew members.
  • Support outages, emergency repairs, and storm restoration when required.
  • Follow Cannon Companies, OSHA, federal, DoD, and site-specific safety requirements and procedures.
