About The Position

This position is responsible for providing effective and efficient operation, maintenance, and construction activities on energized or de-energized lines. The role involves performing all tasks associated with the construction, maintenance, and operation of an electrical system in a safe manner. The Journeyman Lineman must be constantly alert to hazards and thoroughly trained in First Aid and CPR.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Flaggers card, Hyster card, CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne pathogens card.
  • “Pole Top Rescue” certification.
  • Understanding of 29 CFR 1910.269 Subpart R OSHA regulations.
  • Experience in operating Bucket Trucks, Digger Derrick, forklifts, and chain saws.
  • Valid Oregon CDL Class A and insurability.
  • Must meet the requirements of pre-employment drug screening and comply with company drug and alcohol policy while employed.
  • Principles of electric theory as applied to circuits and wiring systems.
  • Principles and procedures of recordkeeping.
  • Basic methods, procedures, materials, and tools used in electrical installation and maintenance.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Strong MS Office Suite skills.
  • Reliable transportation for getting to work.

Nice To Haves

  • Rural electric cooperative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Remain fully informed of established and accepted construction and maintenance practices.
  • Participate as a member of the construction or maintenance crew and perform all assignments and duties of a Journeyman Lineman.
  • Climb poles and/or structures using climbers and body belt.
  • Lift weights from 20 lbs. to 100 lbs. on the ground and aloft.
  • Use all tools, devices, vehicles, materials, and equipment common to the line craft.
  • Perform all work connected with the maintenance, operation, and construction of electrical facilities efficiently.
  • Assist Foreman by being responsible for the safety of personnel connected with the job.
  • Install and read test meters in the field.
  • Sectionalize and switch according to authorized operating procedures.
  • Patrol lines when required and record findings of needed maintenance.
  • Locate and correct the cause of service interruptions.
  • Operate substations, regulators, and capacitors when authorized.
  • Perform line work on energized conductors in accordance with National and State Electrical and Safety Codes.
  • Install transformer banks, regulator banks, and sectionalizing equipment.
  • Assist in conducting voltage and load surveys.
  • Check meter sockets for proper voltage when installing or changing meters.
  • Actively participate in tailgate meetings prior to beginning work to be aware of potential hazards and reinforce safe working practices.
  • Perform work according to the Cooperative’s accepted procedures (REA construction standards, service installation standards, PUC regulations, etc.).
  • Continuously inspect the system during regular travel, reporting any known hazardous conditions on lines or stations.
  • Execute the functions of switching or substation operation when directed.
  • Assist in the apprenticeship training program according to standards.
  • Perform aerial rescue from the pole.
  • Promote good morale and working relations with all CCEC employees and perform work in a professional manner.
