About The Position

Irby Construction Company is seeking a Journeyman Lineman (Transmission/Distribution) to build, maintain, and repair overhead transmission, distribution, and underground distribution lines using approved standards under the direction of the Crew Foreman. This role is responsible for the safe operation of equipment and operations on digger trucks (line trucks) and bucket trucks to construct and maintain electrical systems of de-energized overhead transmission lines and energized overhead and underground distribution systems. This position will be for the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley. Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as a journeyman lineman in the line industry.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lead crew during on call rotation.
  • Ability to interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.
  • Ability to maintain records required for time worked and materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of first-aid, safety rules, line materials and tools and their use.
  • Good judgment, safe work methods, and ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
  • Must be able to work outside during all weather conditions and terrain on a regular and/or on-call basis, in a safe and productive manner.
  • Must have a class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • May move up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to work at heights and/or confined space.
  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis.

  • Ability to ascend and descend poles of all types to change out crossarms, transformers and repair conductors, etc., as well as maintains current knowledge of equipment, and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to lead in Crew Forman’s absence
  • Inspects, maintains company equipment, and trucks in safe working order

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and repair overhead transmission, distribution, and underground distribution lines using approved standards under direction of the Crew Foreman.
  • Safely operate equipment and operations on digger trucks (line trucks) and bucket trucks.
  • Construct and maintain electrical systems of de-energized overhead transmission lines and energized overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Conduct a Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) as required.
  • String, sag, clip, and dead-end conductor.
  • Perform grounding of conductor and set up an Equipotential Workzone.
  • Ascend and descend poles of all types to change out crossarms, transformers and repair conductors, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment and OSHA regulations.
  • Lead crew during on-call rotation.
  • Interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.
  • Maintain records required for time worked and materials.
  • Perform Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue.
  • Assist in training Apprentice Lineman.
  • Lead in Crew Foreman’s absence.
  • Inspect and maintain company equipment and trucks in safe working order.
