About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking an experienced Distribution Journeyman Lineman Serviceman for their Amarillo, TX location. This role requires a self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and commitment to safety, quality customer service, and productivity. The successful candidate will possess a well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fusing practices, and be thoroughly familiar with the Company's safety regulations and the hazards involved in distribution service work. This position involves performing a variety of lineman duties related to overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission construction, operations, and maintenance activities. Key responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and removal of overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment. The role requires the ability to climb poles, work on energized conductors and equipment, perform hot stick work on energized high voltage conductors, work in inclement weather, and be available for call-out work.

Requirements

  • Must successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.
  • Must possess a Journeyman Lineman Certification that is approved by the Department of Labor.
  • Must have a Class A CDL.
  • Must be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be available for emergency call-outs as per a schedule.
  • Must have effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods.
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift objects up to 90 pounds.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions.
  • Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew required.
  • A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.
  • Must reside within 20 miles of the Amarillo, TX service center.
  • Must pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Must have a well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading and fusing practices. This includes, but is not limited to, meter sets and their connections, the use of hot line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers and their connections, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance, and removal of overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment.

  • Be available for callout work.
