About The Position

The Journeyman HVAC position operates and repairs industrial sized heating, ventilation and air conditioning including chillers and auxiliary equipment. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Apply combustion principles and refrigeration theory to diagnose and repair HVAC systems
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and mechanical layouts
  • Diagnose system issues and determine appropriate repair, replacement, or maintenance actions
  • Perform pipe fitting, welding, brazing, and soldering of high-pressure refrigerant systems.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively in system installation and repair
  • Maintain accurate records related to maintenance, repairs, scheduling, and inventory
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations
  • Communicate effectively and provide direction or guidance to staff as needed
  • Idaho driver’s license
  • Successfully complete background investigation
  • Become CPR and First Aid certified
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
  • R22 and R410 certified, CFC Universal Qualified, and EPA Universal Certification
  • Valid Idaho HVAC Journeyman license
  • Three or more years’ experience working as a HVAC Journeyman required
  • Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly
  • Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and make adjustments to equipment
  • Sufficient strength to lift objects over 50 pounds and lift/move up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Sufficient body flexibility, agility, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations which require working in confined spaces, climbing on ladders and power lifts, and hard-to-reach places.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial or light industrial experience preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Install, fabricate, operates, maintains, and repairs air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV and FVAV heating systems, building automation control systems and other related equipment
  • Prepares systems for winter carry-over and cold weather conditions
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and longevity
  • Inspect and test HVAC systems to verify proper operation and compliance with safety standards
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and make necessary adjustments
  • Respond to service calls and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner
  • Cleans, services and adjusts natural gas boilers and water heating equipment
  • Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system
  • Coordinate with other trades, contractors, and departments as needed
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices or less experienced staff
  • Inspects and make recommendations on contracted work
  • Participates in ongoing safety and training programs
  • Estimates time and material costs on HVAC projects
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with county policies, procedures, and safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned
