About The Position

The Facilities Management department at CSU is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair and improvement of all academic, administrative, research and campus infrastructure. The Journeyman HVAC-Preventative Maintenance Technician provides maintenance, operates, diagnoses and troubleshoots repairs for air conditioning, refrigeration systems as well as heating and ventilation equipment including steam hydronic and gas fired. The position will also need to properly handle and dispose refrigerants. The Pipe Mech Trades I- Preventative Maintenance Technician will preform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to of building mechanical systems, as well as serve as an assistant to the Journey level employees for repair or replacement of HVAC equipment. They will also assist with preforming asset tagging on HVAC and pumps.

Requirements

  • Journeyman HVAC Experience Only: Three (3) years of relevant experience in an mechanical maintenance repair relevant to the work assigned to this position OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years
  • Pipe Mech Trades I: Experience Only: Two (2) years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance repair related to the work assigned to this position OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.

Responsibilities

  • Provides preventive maintenance and operates, diagnoses, troubleshoots repairs reciprocating type air conditioning and refrigeration systems and components.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses and repair on pumps, cooling towers, refrigerant and water piping, walk-in refrigeration coolers and freezers, compressors, refrigerators, staters, coifs, environmental chambers, ice machines, window A/C’s water coolers, and other various cooling equipment.
  • Proper use of refrigerant (CFC) recovery, reclaim, recycle refrigerant gases.
  • Proper disposal techniques of contaminated CFC’s and hazardous materials (oil and gas) as outlined by federal, state, and local governments.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and operates electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems to gas and hot water heating systems, air conditioning and ventilation systems.
  • Operates heating and ventilation equipment to include steam, hydronic and gas fired systems.
  • Performs maintenance services to components such as: expansion tanks, pressure and temperature limiting devices, heat exchanges, valves, pilot assemblies, motors, gas burners, orifices, regulators, v-belts, sheaves, and other types of heating and ventilation components.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and performs minor repair of building rotating mechanical systems including: Greasing motor/hydronic pump bearings using the proper lubricant for the task/equipment.
  • Inspecting drive belts, sheaves and air filters.
  • Minor repair or replacement of building rotating mechanical systems, including sheaves, drive belts, air filters, etc.
  • Provide assistance to journey-level employees as needed for repair or replacement of HVAC mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with performing asset tagging on all HVAC equipment (AHUs, RTUs, MAUs, EFs, SFs, etc.) and pumps to collect data for integrated work management tracking and historical data purposes.
