We're proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies! We’re looking for a Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic to join our team. The Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the mechanical servicing, repair and maintenance of KBL’s long haul fleet equipment (trucks and trailers). The Journeyman Mechanic will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components and maintain detailed records. This position is also responsible for apprenticing 1st to 4th year Heavy Duty Mechanic’s Apprentice.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working on heavy trucks and trailers
  • Possession of valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, able to give and receive verbal information and direction in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting and teamwork skills
  • Must hold a Journeyman’s Heavy-Duty Technician/Mechanic Ticket
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting 55 lbs, confined spaces, heights, extended standing).
  • Self-motivator willing to work shit work

Nice To Haves

  • Hydraulic and bulk solids equipment knowledge is considered an asset
  • Knowledge in inventory management

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment servicing to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Complete repairs and preventative maintenance in line with servicing requirements.
  • Accurately document work orders, including time, parts, and repair details.
  • Delegate tasks to apprentices based on skill and competency levels.
  • Record service inspections with detailed documentation.
  • Conduct Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP) in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Repair, overhaul, and maintain equipment components to meet safety and performance standards.
  • Perform hot work, including welding, grinding, cutting, torch use, and metal fabrication.
  • Maintain shop and yard cleanliness, manage tools, waste, and assist with inventory.
  • Enforce health and safety standards, reporting hazards and ensuring safe work practices.
