About The Position

The Journeyman Electrician E-6 participates in the construction, installation, alterations, additions, modifications, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, conductors, facilities, and equipment within the electrical construction industry. The Journeyman Electrician E-6 must be able to perform all electrical tasks with general supervision. This role may be part of a crew or act as the lead person directing a crew and should have the ability to direct less experienced apprentices and helpers.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or holder of a G.E.D.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license required
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience
  • Demonstrated experience of ethical leadership
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
  • Ability to lift up to 51 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to walk from parking areas to job sites and access all site levels, including OSHA-approved ladders or unfinished but approved stairs
  • Normal or corrected vision required
  • Ability to work at varying heights using ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe work areas
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and working with a crew
  • Installation of all types of electrical work
  • Troubleshooting motors, controls, circuits, and equipment
  • Layout and blueprints
  • Rigging and setup for all locations
  • Basic theory knowledge
  • Positively identifying wire colors
  • Reading, comprehending, and drawing prints and schematics
  • Bending conduit using hand benders
  • Using power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches
  • Digging trenches using hand tools or power equipment
  • Operating trenchers, backhoes, and lift trucks safely
  • Practicing and comprehending safe work procedures as outlined in the GNS Electric, Inc. Safety Manual, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy
  • Operating two-handed tools and equipment including cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jackhammers
  • Operating company vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions
  • Reading and interpreting maps, instructional manuals, specifications, worksite directions, blueprints, and written instructions
  • Operating and working from mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas powered)
  • Intimate familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Policy and agreement to work only on de-energized, locked-out circuits
  • Possessing the skills of all lower E-rating job descriptions
