About The Position

The Journeyman Electrician plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across campus facilities. This position is responsible for a wide range of electrical work, including troubleshooting, installations, routine inspections, and preventative maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient building operations. Working closely with the Specialized Maintenance team, the Journeyman Electrician supports ongoing facility operations by maintaining electrical systems, including line and low voltage systems, lighting systems, and trail lighting infrastructure. This role also assists with system testing and supports contractor coordination as needed to ensure efficient facility operations. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to both independent work and team collaboration. The Journeyman Electrician helps ensure electrical systems meet safety standards and regulatory requirements while supporting the overall functionality of the campus. Participation in an on-call rotation is required, along with the ability to respond promptly to urgent situations when needed.

Requirements

  • Active Journeyman Electrician license required.
  • 5+ years of experience working with electrical systems, preferably within commercial, institutional, or similar environments.
  • Working knowledge of facilities operations, construction practices, and building systems.
  • Strong understanding of applicable federal, state, and local electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Understanding of measurements and mathematical applications.
  • Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Capable of operating standard equipment and machinery, including forklifts, scissor/extension lifts, and vehicles/carts/trailers.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and use specialized software.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other basic computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including line and low voltage systems, lighting systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Maintain and monitor electrical systems, lighting, and lamp replacement programs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to support reliability and system longevity.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose root causes, and implement effective repairs.
  • Maintain and support lighting control systems, including Lutron lighting systems and Embedia shade programming.
  • Supervise and coordinate electrical contractors working on-site to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with standards.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and integration of electrical systems as needed to support facility operations.
  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support campus safety programs, including compliance with OSHA standards, hazardous materials handling, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain documentation and follow established standards, policies, and procedures related to electrical systems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed to respond to system issues and emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
