About The Position

The Journeyman Electrician is a skilled professional responsible for independently installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems in accordance with applicable codes and project specifications. This role leads electrical work on job sites, ensures high-quality installations, and mentors apprentices while coordinating with supervisors and other trades. The Journeyman Electrician plays a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems while driving productivity and workmanship excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship program required.
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license (as required by state/local regulations).
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, installation methods, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable regulations.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation independently.
  • Experience leading crews and mentoring apprentices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various conditions.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Required to wear PPE, including safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and execute work based on blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical documents independently.
  • Plan, layout, and install electrical systems, including conduit, panels, switchgear, feeders, and equipment.
  • Pull, terminate, and test wiring systems in compliance with NEC and project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, diagnosing issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Install and support motor controls, distribution systems, and complex electrical components.
  • Perform system testing, commissioning, and startup activities to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Lead daily work activities, task assignments, and workflow coordination for apprentices and crew members.
  • Mentor, train, and develop Apprentice 1–4 employees, providing guidance and feedback.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, and other trades to ensure project alignment and efficiency.
  • Monitor material usage and assist with planning and maintaining inventory levels.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
  • Enforce safety protocols and proactively identify and mitigate hazards on job sites.
  • Communicate effectively regarding progress, challenges, and project updates.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project success and business objectives.
