About The Position

The Electrical Journeyperson is a skilled tradesperson who has completed an apprenticeship and works independently on electrical systems, with a primary focus on solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage installations. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, solar arrays, inverters, and battery systems while ensuring all work meets safety codes and quality standards. The role involves both independent and team-based work, rooftop tasks during solar installations, and flexibility to travel between job sites, reporting to the Site Supervisor. Primary operations are in the Smithers and Witset area for the foreseeable future. Occasional travel to other sites may be required.

Requirements

  • Must hold a journeyman electrician license, which typically requires passing an exam after completing a certain number of hours in an apprenticeship.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, technical diagrams, and electrical code specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and codes.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing devices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and devise effective solutions.
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy materials, balancing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and tools, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Fall Protection Certification.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Experience with solar considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including conduits, wiring, breakers, switches, solar PV systems, inverters, and battery storage equipment in accordance with blueprints, building codes, and safety standards
  • Connect power supplies, grounding systems, and energy components to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues using testing devices and perform repairs or replacements as needed
  • Complete routine maintenance to ensure system reliability
  • Follow all safety procedures including working at heights during rooftop solar installations
  • Collaborate with other trades and project teams to integrate electrical systems effectively
  • Provide guidance to apprentices or junior electricians when required
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed while reporting progress and issues to supervisors or project managers.
