About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to perform journeyman-level installation, maintenance, and repair of City-owned electrical assets, such as traffic signals, electrical services and distribution systems, branch circuit wiring, emergency backup systems, fire alarm systems, access control systems, tornado sirens, garage doors and motorized gates, pool equipment, HVAC systems, lighting, electrical conduit, and information technology and telecommunication systems. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit, the Perrysburg Municipal Employees Association(PMEA).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, with vocational or technical training in electrical; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement preferred, or the ability to obtain and maintain such license within six (6) months of appointment, as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers.
  • Receives regular and emergency requests and work orders related to installation, maintenance, and repair of building utility power, electrical systems, and related equipment.
  • Locates electrical malfunctions.
  • Coordinates preventative maintenance for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Determines materials needed to complete projects.
  • Participates in project planning and implementation for new installations, special projects, and events.
  • Coordinates contracted electrical work.
  • Assists with other maintenance activities in support of City operations as assigned.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Receives and responds to requests for information, complaints, and concerns from the public, City employees, and others.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures for electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
  • Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, contractors, the public, outside organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, receive/give advice and direction, or resolve problems.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and tools as necessary to complete essential functions.
