About The Position

The Journeyman Electrician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or a designate thereof and will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and equipment within our beef processing plant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance. This role requires a keen attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience as Electrician.
  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is required.
  • Must possess Journeyman Electrician Certification.
  • Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems.
  • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
  • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Very good communication skills and good problem-solving skills.
  • Very good physical strength and stamina, able to lift, pull, push, and handle up to 80 lbs. This role requires constant walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Able to work in cold, hot, and wet environments
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to rotational shift work, work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed. Should be available for on-call during emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a large-scale meat or food manufacturing/processing environment considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting and other electrical systems
  • Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components
  • Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them
  • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units
  • Perform other duties as required.
