About The Position

CDE Lightband, the municipal electric and broadband power provider for the City of Clarksville, is seeking a Journeyman Electric Line Worker to join their Electric Line Worker Team. This is a full-time, hourly position responsible for constructing and maintaining overhead and underground electrical service distribution systems. The role involves installation, repair, replacement, and inspection of equipment, often while the system is energized. Additionally, the Journeyman will collaborate in training Apprentice Line Workers, maintain inventory, and uphold the highest safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Five years of experience in electric distribution line work
  • Completion of a five-year line worker apprenticeship program approved by the DOL, Bureau of Apprenticeships and Training
  • Completed Apprenticeship Training to receive Journeyman Standing
  • Commercial Driver's License
  • CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job is also considered
  • Knowledgeable of and Skilled in construction tools and methods used for Electric transmission and distribution line construction and maintenance
  • Knowledge of and Skilled in Electric utility operating methods
  • Knowledgeable of Occupational hazards and Safety Regulations associated with electrical transmission and distribution
  • Knowledgeable of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledgeable of and Skilled in Customer Service principles and practices
  • Skilled in electrical line work, energized when required
  • Skilled and Able to climb utility poles with energized lines, when necessary, and use aerial devices to service broken or defective wires or equipment, and able to work in underground vaults and access a diversity of workspaces
  • Skilled in accepting, receiving, and transferring training and training principles
  • Skilled in Troubleshooting and resolving complex problems
  • Skilled in Basic Computer and related software applications
  • Skilled in reading and comprehending training documents
  • Skilled in and the Ability to perform physical work during extreme conditions for the entire duration of the workday and beyond into extended hours if necessary, if duties of the job require.
  • Ability to work independently and individually, and exercise independent judgment and initiative while working under supervision and following directions and work orders
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and through the spoken word.

  • Reside no farther than 30 minutes (max) driving from the main office.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electric systems, including constructing, installing, removing, and servicing secondary distribution lines both overhead and underground.
  • Performs work on energized and de-energized lines, frequently requiring digging for pole, anchor, and underground line installation.
  • Climbs utility poles to perform work safely and meets all safety requirements annually.
  • Operates vehicles of various sizes, weights, and descriptions safely and cautiously, adhering to all local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including DOT and Commercial Driver's License requirements.
  • Attends regular training, participates in meetings and programs, including all safety meetings, and maintains and follows all safety requirements.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of parts and equipment, working with warehouse personnel to maintain accurate connections, and notifies supervisor when levels are low.
  • Works with the Foreman to respond to and resolve customer complaints, explaining programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains various operational reports and paperwork for submission, including safety reports, work orders, and other assigned documents.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
