About The Position

Propak Systems Ltd. is seeking a Journeyman Crane Operator / Class 1 Driver to join their Fabrication Shops in Airdrie, AB. This role is responsible for operating cranes to lift, move, position, or place equipment and materials, as well as driving the crane to job sites. The position involves rigging and setting up the machine for lifts, performing pre-operational inspections, calculating crane capacities, and conducting routine maintenance. Additionally, the role includes loading, hauling, and delivering materials, completing daily material transfers between Propak locations, and ensuring internal BOLs are accurately completed and delivered. The position operates on a night shift, Monday to Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid recognized Alberta Journeyperson Trade Certificate, or a recognized trade certificate or equivalency document.
  • Alberta Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is required.
  • 1-2 years of directly related work experience.
  • As a condition of employment, employees are required upon hire to sign a Drug-Free Workplace Agreement, a Conflict of Interest Agreement and Confidentiality and Invention Agreement.

Nice To Haves

  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cranes to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials.
  • Drive the crane to the job site.
  • Rig the machine up (pin the boom and pendant cables and pull the hoist cable in preparation for operation).
  • Set up the machine for the lift (make it level and stable) using blocking and leveling materials.
  • Service and operate travelling, fixed or climbing type hoisting equipment with a vertical mast or tower and a jib.
  • Perform pre-operational inspection, and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
  • Perform routine maintenance work such as cleaning and lubricating cranes.
  • Complete daily material transfers between the separate Propak locations as required by the 404 Yard.
  • Operate equipment at any of the Propak locations based on work load and requirements.
  • Ensure all internal BOL’s are delivered, signed for and accurately completed.
  • Work closely with Administrative staff to ensure transfers and completed in a timely manner.
  • Load, haul, and deliver materials such as pipe and heavy equipment.
  • Apply tire chains when required, as per DFI’s safe work procedures.
  • Maintain a legal driver's logbook Geo tab.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
