Journeyman Carpenter advances Denver Zoo’s mission and goals by performing journeyman-level carpentry involving woodworking and other general maintenance. Requirements

7+ years of general non-licensed carpentry/maintenance experience.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to read and work from manuals, blueprints, written and verbal instructions.
Possess excellent interpersonal communications and customer service skills.
High mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
Must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with locksmithing, all phases of commercial build and remodeling, stage design and/or custom fabrication desired.
Experience with previous computer-based work order system is a plus.

Responsibilities

Complete all assigned carpentry maintenance and fabrication request to a journeyman-level standard.
Estimate materials needed for various projects and have such materials on hand. Also, cost out projects from start to finish.
Constructs and repairs tables, benches, cabinets, counters, and furnishings. May also build structures such as small building or sheds.
Repair or replace windows, doors, locks and repair or replace ceilings, walls or floors coverings as needed.
Inspect facilities to determine required maintenance/repairs and place work request on identified deficiencies.
Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Consistently provide exceptional customer service.
Assist other trades personnel in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facility infrastructure.
Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians with regard to contracted service agreements.
Utilize Facility Dude program for work order processing, communication and maintenance of records and reports.
Provide input to supervisors and managers responsible for planning and controlling annual budgets in addition to providing estimates on materials, labor, and equipment costs.
Orders parts and supplies as required and maintains stock and inventory control.
Operates and maintains tools and equipment common to various skilled trades.
By position, may be required to be on-call to address emergent needs.

Ability to safely operate various hand and power tools: saws, routers, drills etc.
Ability to safely operate (with training) various pieces of equipment such as backhoes, skid steers and forklifts.
Ability to use basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Performs various duties as assigned.
