About The Position

Working from blueprints or instructions from supervisors, layout, measuring, marking, and arranging materials in accordance with local building codes. Works on commercial or industrial projects primarily surrounding our Wyandotte location.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
  • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program; OR at least four years of experience via on-the-job training required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints using English language
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to work as a team to complete projects
  • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Subject to variable weather conditions inside and outside of buildings
  • Ability to work at various heights that can be several floors high

Responsibilities

  • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
  • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects.
  • Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
  • Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete, strikes and finishes concrete, run concrete machine
  • May erect and dismantle scaffolding
  • Installs doors and hardware, siding, trim and suspended ceilings.
  • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
  • Operates equipment such as SkyTrak and Bobcat.
  • Assists in training Apprentice level employees
  • Follows all safety requirements
  • Consistent on-site attendance is a requirement of the job.
  • Requires some travel within the State of Michigan.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
