About The Position

The Journey Level Mechanic - Treatment is responsible for the intermediate level maintenance and complex repair of equipment and facilities. This position will support multiple facilities with varying processes, equipment and functional requirements. The role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex non-routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping, and equipment problems. It includes performing predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance duties, developing technical specifications for repair parts and equipment, and tracking/recording information in work order documents. The mechanic will create reports and enter data into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and use Microsoft Office. Advanced diagnostic tests will be performed to resolve routine to complex problems. Repairs will be made to plant machinery and equipment using various tools. The role also involves dismantling, constructing, fabricating, and assembling components of facilities, industrial machinery, or equipment, and performing confined space entries in hazardous environments. Participation in planning efforts, coordination with organizational groups, and training/mentoring of other employees are key aspects. The mechanic will monitor mechanical equipment, clean and lubricate machinery, and provide mechanical recommendations for ordering new parts and equipment. A working knowledge of other maintenance crafts is expected, along with promoting and practicing a safe working environment. Intermediate to advanced principles of mechanical maintenance and industrial safety will be applied. Reading O&M manuals, as-built drawings, block maps, schematics, and construction plans is required. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and public relations is also part of the role. Operation of company vehicles and potentially other heavy equipment may be required. Work must be performed in accordance with TCEQ, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Evaluation of construction drawings and recommendations are also part of the duties, along with other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Four years’ experience performing repairs and maintenance in the mechanical trade.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Class “C” Wastewater Treatment Operators License.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves complex non-routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping and equipment problems.

  • Performs confined space entries in hazardous environments.
  • Participates in planning efforts such as safety committees, work planning groups, and special project teams.
  • Coordinates with all organizational groups, crafts, and operational staff.
  • Trains and mentors other employees.
  • Leads work teams as required.
  • Monitors mechanical equipment and makes functional adjustments.
  • Cleans and lubricates machinery and equipment according to specifications.
  • Furnishes mechanical recommendation when ordering new parts, machinery and equipment.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of other maintenance crafts.
  • Promotes and practices a safe working environment.
  • Applies intermediate to advanced principles of mechanical maintenance and industrial safety.
  • Reads O & M manuals, as-built drawings, block maps, schematics, and construction plans.

  • May operate a forklift, powered vertical lifting equipment, utility truck, crane, combination unit, water tanker or other heavy equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
