About The Position

The Jockey (CDL class) is responsible for safely moving, positioning, and spotting trailers for loading, unloading, and parking across docks, staging areas, and facility grounds. This role involves monitoring and logging trailer movements to ensure efficient yard operations, operating yard tractors and other equipment, and adhering to all safety policies and regulations. The position also requires effective communication with warehouse teams and drivers, assisting with loading/unloading, and utilizing SAP for shipping and receiving data. The Jockey will also support compliance with food safety standards and report any maintenance needs for yard equipment.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Confident computer skills navigating internet and customer portals.
  • Able to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • High School Certification or equivalent (GED).
  • Maintain a valid CDL-A license if required.
  • 1 - 2 years warehouse shipping and receiving experience.
  • Prior experience with a warehouse management system (WMS).
  • Clear and effective communication with team members, management and other departments.
  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve operational issues.
  • High level of accuracy in handling materials and recording information.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work demands and schedules.
  • Participation in safety audits and inspections to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Food/Beverage Manufacturing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all health and safety policies/procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to food quality and food safety standards.
  • Safely move, position, and spot trailers for loading, unloading, and parking across docks, staging areas, and facility grounds.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and log trailer movements to ensure efficient yard operations and clear tracking throughout the shift; report final trailer status and updates at shift end.
  • Operate yard tractors, hostlers, and other equipment for trailer movement; ensure pre-trip and post-trip inspections are completed, and report any malfunctions, damage, or hazards promptly.
  • Follow all safety policies, DOT, OSHA, and relevant regulations, ensuring proper chocking and securing of trailers when parked or at docks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized yard to support safe and efficient vehicle and personnel movement.
  • Communicate effectively with warehouse teams, drivers, and dispatch to coordinate trailer movements and respond to repositioning or assistance requests promptly.
  • Conduct regular checks to account for and secure all trailers, reducing yard congestion and optimizing yard flow during peak operations.
  • Assist with trailer loading or unloading, as well as backup logistics tasks such as vehicle fueling, cleaning, or processing BOL and associated shipping paperwork.
  • Utilize SAP for shipping and receiving data.
  • Communicate via email with Supervisors, Coordinators, Production, Maintenance, and Management as required.
  • Report or identify maintenance needs for yard equipment and warehouse machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Participate in safety meetings and provide input on improving yard operations and procedures.
  • Support compliance with FDA, USDA, GMPs, and HACCP standards to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Take prompt action to address any identified food safety or quality issues.
  • Represents the company in a positive manner at all times.
