About The Position

Since 2008, Hot Bread Kitchen has empowered New Yorkers who face barriers to economic opportunities through transformative careers in New York City’s food industry. We offer small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement, bolstered by individualized, wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports entrepreneurs as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources. Culinary Fundamentals, our award-winning culinary training program, provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry. Our upskilling programs enable incumbent workers to gain further skills, leading to higher wages and career advancement. We work diligently alongside our network of over 200 food employer partners and more than 250 nonprofit and government partners to ensure our graduates are set up for success both at home and in their careers. Hot Bread Kitchen’s culinary workforce development programs prepare over 100 women and non-binary or gender fluid individuals, primarily immigrants and people of color, to succeed in good food jobs with culinary partners across NYC. We seek a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and organized Job Placement Coordinator who will support quality and timely job placement activities as well as take on additional projects within the Job Placement team to support the overall mission of the organization. This position reports directly to the Career Services Manager on the Programs Team.

Requirements

  • Driven by and have a belief in Hot Bread Kitchen’s values and mission.
  • 1-2 years of experience in project management/administration, recruiting and/or job placement work, or direct services.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communications.
  • You enjoy working with diverse communities and having direct interactions with members.
  • A working understanding of the immigrant population and their barriers to entry into the workforce.
  • Systems and process-oriented; proactive, resourceful and innovative with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and energetic team atmosphere with ambitious deadlines; successful team members are self-directed, with effective time management, organizational skills and ability to simultaneously manage several priorities.
  • General computer proficiency in Google platforms, and productivity software; experience with Salesforce experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and updating member resumes.
  • Conducting intakes with each program participant to understand key details that will be crucial in finding them the right job, including their availability, past experience, and goals.
  • Keeping detailed records of program participant information.
  • Scheduling interviews, coordinating/following up with candidates and employers, and supporting member onboarding.
  • Conducting outreach to members during the first three months of employment to provide support with potential issues and to ensure submission of logbooks.
  • Sending out a weekly newsletter with active job opportunities.
  • Ensuring prompt, professional, and thorough correspondence with employer partners.
  • Ensuring candidates are vetted thoroughly for availability and interest before sending their information to partners.
  • Referring partners to the Career Services Manager if they are experiencing an obstacle with a hired member.
  • Facilitate the Job Placement professional readiness lessons to each cohort that is assigned to them by the Career Services Manager.
  • Support the coordination of field exposure and job placement activities such as hiring events, culinary field trips, and partner engagement events.
  • Ensure all critical data, including job opportunities, interview results, and job placements, are accurately and quickly reflected in Salesforce and other trackers.
  • Participate in Week Zeros, including interviewing program candidates and actively participating in the deliberation process.
  • Support with other process improvement projects as needed.
