Reporting directly to a Director in Workforce and Economic Development, the Job Development Specialist ( JDS ) is responsible for making contact with local and regional employers for the purpose of developing job and career opportunities, and job leads for students and participants enrolled in various programs at the college. The JDS will facilitate job club and career exploration activities which prepares participants for the acquisition and retention of employment. The JDS provides technical and professional services to potential employers and participants, which meets intended programmatic outcomes. Works closely with other staff to develop and monitor Individual Service Strategies ( ISS ), Educational Development Plans, and/or career plans. This position is responsible for assisting Students and participants with employment preparation and placement as well as informing employers of the employment services available to them to ensure that the college is assisting the business community by verifying skill gaps and training needs while addressing and meeting the employment needs of job-seekers. MCC supplies employers with qualified candidates, job postings, applicant pre-screening assistance, drug testing and background checks, as well as space for interviews and value added workshops. The JDS also contacts businesses to identify new employment leads through job fairs, cold calls, networking and the e-recruiting, potential apprenticeships, on-the-job training opportunities, internships, externships, and other work experiences with the goal of helping students to maintain long-term employment. Follow-up activities are critical to this role to identify and intervene in those instances where supportive services or other job-related services are required to ensure stability and job retention.
