About The Position

Under the supervision of the Placement Specialist, the Job Connection Interpreter will provide interpreting for sensitivity awareness for existing and potential employers of deaf and hard of hearing consumers. This role involves working closely with the Placement Specialist to provide job development/placement services to deaf and hard-of-hearing users of GLAD Employment Services (ES). The interpreter will identify and develop employment opportunities, using both traditional and non-traditional employment resources, for consumers in need of employment assistance. Additionally, the position provides direct communication support to deaf and hard-of-hearing employment placement coordinators at designated AJCC field offices and performs other delegated tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and fluency in ASL required
  • Achieving to obtain or already have an ASL Interpreter Certification from the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with Level 4 or above; or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) given by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
  • Knowledgeable of Interpreter Code of Ethics and the role of the interpreter
  • Basic knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Ability to relate and be sensitive to deaf persons with varied communication skills and language levels
  • Ability to work with a diverse, multi-ethnic population
  • Ability to handle consumers’ confidential information and maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to perform professionally
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must
  • Demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office programs required
  • Be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication skills
  • Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required
  • Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, employers, outside vendors, and the CEO
  • Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance
  • Extensive driving is required to attend in-person appointments and assignments
  • Selected candidate must complete and pass a background check of references, criminal background screening and drug screening

Responsibilities
