About The Position

The Job Coach will work with students with disabilities at Hilton Head Island High School to develop and implement age-appropriate skills and activities, emphasizing strengths and minimizing disabilities. This role involves effective communication with various stakeholders, providing one-to-one instruction at job sites, and supporting students in employability skills and vocational-related remediation. The Job Coach will also assist with work site modifications, connect with community service organizations to promote training and employment opportunities, and perform routine clerical tasks. Maintaining a positive and professional demeanor, assisting with parent concerns, and ensuring compliance with regulations are key aspects of this position. The role also requires a commitment to professional development and staying current with educational research and techniques.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Human Services area.
  • Ability to make independent judgments.
  • Outstanding organizational and management skills.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of Internet software, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and data base software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of current research and trends in education, instructional strategies, instruction uses of technology, and multicultural education.
  • Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Adhere to confidentiality as directed by Federal, State and Local Laws/Regulations; and in accordance with district administrative rules as it pertains to sensitive information, employee information and student information.

  • American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

Responsibilities

  • Describe and implement chronological, age-appropriate skills and activities for students with disabilities while emphasizing strengths and minimizing disabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, agency personnel and the business community.
  • Work with individual students and provide one-to-one instruction on the job site.
  • Provide instructional support for students in employability skills, programming at the high school level and vocational-related remediation, as appropriate.
  • Assist in determining and providing for any necessary work site modifications which enhance student performance.
  • Contact community service organizations to promote training and employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Use office equipment and other instructional devices, as appropriate.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks including filing, typing, sorting, etc.
  • Maintain a positive, courteous manner when interacting with children, parents, other employees, and the public.
  • Assist assigned schools in addressing parent concerns and questions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, policies and laws.
  • Assume responsibility for professional development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques in specialized areas; and, for attending appropriate professional meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
