About The Position

The person in this position will be responsible for the delivery of vocational and educational guidance to clients participating in the program while performing job functions. Essential Job Functions include those listed below.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • One (1) year experience in vocational counseling, job development, and employment services is preferred
  • Ability to inspire and motivate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving ability
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from LEIE, MSIL, and EPLS
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Fresno County Credentialing
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work or other related field is preferred
  • Knowledge of offender populations, criminal subcultures, and cultural differences, substance abuse assessment tools, therapeutic community concepts is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with counselors and clients in the development of Vocational soft and technical skills
  • Provide educational and vocational guidance to clients participating in the program including training on safe material handling, the operation of equipment
  • Provide in-service training and workshops for consumers including equipment maintenance, in-house job duties, soft skills, and communication
  • Create a work like environment where clients can gain a fundamental understanding of punctuality, reliability, steps to completing work assignments
  • Develop facility chore and special skill assignments and job descriptions.
  • Work with coordinators and counselors on assigning facility chores, develop work crews with Consumer “supervisors” and conduct chore assignments as an “employment experience,” including appropriate attitude and department evaluations and opportunities for advancement
  • Plan and arrange for courses of study and training as needed
  • Counsel and assist applicants with the personal adjustment to work ethics and assignments
  • Obtain job orders, arrange interviews, and provide follow up and feedback to the individual departments
  • Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
