Under general direction, responsible for managing the work of junior staff and consultants to develop and produce a comprehensive project deliverable for medium projects or components of larger projects. This role involves managing feasibility studies, schematic designs, working drawings, and project manual/specifications production for medium projects or projects with multiple packages. With guidance from Project Managers, Project Designers or Project Architects, the Job Captain can develop all phases of a project while following the design intent. They act independently regarding architectural methods, detailing, diverse building types and complexities, and coordinate information and work of a multi-disciplined team throughout the development and contract document phases of a project. The Job Captain manages consultants, delegates work assignments, and provides direction and guidance to junior staff. They attend internal meetings to ensure design specifications are coordinated with drawings, develop programming documents and site planning documents, and may assist in the development of specifications and conduct on-site observations on a number of building and construction types. Regular meetings with the Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager are expected to provide insight on project status and details contributing to project success. Supervision and guidance mainly concern overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. The role also involves representing the Firm by actively participating in external professional organizations and social functions.
