About The Position

Ben Bridge Jeweler's corporate office in Downtown Seattle is seeking a qualified Appraiser to join their team. The Appraiser assists with jewelry appraisals and ensures new merchandise meets the company’s gemological standards as outlined by the Vice President of Merchandise. This position requires teamwork within the Quality Control and Appraisal departments as well as with our Buyers, VP of Merchandise and our retail stores.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Gemologist Appraiser title or National Association of Jewelry Appraisers membership
  • At least 2 years of experience appraising jewelry
  • Able to operate standard gemological instruments
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrate analytical and creative problem solving
  • Factual, articulate and professional written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage within strict timelines

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing customer appraisals including evaluating jewelry, researching replacement pricing, and documenting official appraisal
  • Identify and measure various gemstones
  • Photograph jewelry to document for inventory control and appraisals purposes
  • Grade Diamonds according to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) scale
  • Test metals
  • Inspect all stones to determine they are genuine per gemological standards
  • Examine jewelry to ensure it meets company’s gemological and quality standards
  • Assess gems and jewelry for proper hallmarks and karat stamps
  • Analyze quality of metal work and check tightness of jewelry settings
  • Verify gem certifications
  • Prepare proper documentation for any gems or jewelry that are classified as Quality Control rejections
  • Other assorted distribution tasks
