About The Position

This position is dedicated exclusively to the Jazz Writing Program and differs significantly from a traditional MSJ adjunct faculty appointment. The successful candidate will possess a unique combination of teaching, technical, and studio management skills necessary to support the program's curriculum and recording facilities.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface)
  • Proficiency in Music notation software, including Dorico, Sibelius, and/or Finale
  • Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), including Pro Tools and Logic Pro
  • Proficiency in Virtual instruments and sample libraries
  • Proficiency in Audio recording, mixing, and production techniques
  • Proficiency in Studio design, operation, and maintenance
  • Proficiency in macOS
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 applications

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MM) or Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Professional experience in jazz composition, arranging, recording, and music production.

Responsibilities

  • Teach jazz composition and related subjects in both group and individual instructional settings for graduate students.
  • Teach MSJ 522/622 – Introduction to MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
  • Co-teach MSJ 775 – Jazz Writing Seminar.
  • Direct the Jazz Recording Ensemble.
  • Manage, maintain, and oversee the operation of two production/recording studios, ensuring that equipment, software, and facilities remain fully functional and up to date.
