About The Position

The School of Jazz & Contemporary Music at the College of Performing Arts seeks highly motivated students to serve as Tutor Generalists. We’re looking for patient and responsible individuals to support instruction. This position reports to Part-time Associate Teaching Professor Ed MacEachen, and is an ideal position for students who are interested in a career in Jazz & Contemporary Music and education. This is a SENS-UAW unit position as per the collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University. This position is open to student applicants with Federal Work Study awards, as well as student applicants without a Federal Work Study award.

Requirements

  • Completed or tested out of class for each class to be tutored
  • Obtain faculty recommendation for each class to be tutored
  • Excellent content knowledge in subject matter
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to patiently and efficiently provide instructional support to other students
  • Ability to self-schedule tutoring sessions, once assigned

Nice To Haves

  • Recipient of a Federal Work Study Award
  • Current student in a School of Jazz & Contemporary Music or Performer-Composer degree program

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students in approved subjects as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator
  • Respond to email inquiries regarding tutoring assignments in a timely manner
  • Submit timesheets and tutoring session confirmation forms in a timely manner
  • Schedule tutoring sessions with assigned tutees
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned to assist other students in out-of-class tutoring, and answering questions about course content taught in class.
