About The Position

We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on Janitorial & Facilities team member who takes pride in keeping our Center for Social Justice + City Mission clean, organized, safe, and ready to serve. From keeping everyday spaces looking their best to helping with events, deliveries, and facility needs, your work will directly support the people and mission of The Salvation Army. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a clear MVR record for driving Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Minimum of 1-year of janitorial experience
  • Proper use of small hand tools, flooring & carpet cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and facilities personnel.
  • Self-motivated, able to work under minimal supervision with great attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

  • Report all maintenance-related issues to the CSJ+CM Director and Officer-in-Charge
  • Address light maintenance needs (hanging pictures, replacing light bulbs, etc.)
  • Assist with event set up and tear down of furniture, displays, etc.
  • Assist in moving furniture, boxes, and other heavy equipment.
  • Restock supplies in the facility. Spot-clean the facility including the kitchen, catering pantry, reception area, conference rooms, training rooms, and bathrooms.
  • Perform routine cleaning of interior and exterior windows.
  • Keep janitor closet clean and organized.
  • Maintain exterior of property, including removal of debris and disposal of items in dumpster.
  • Drive a Salvation Army vehicle to pick up supplies and make deliveries, primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
