About The Position

The Janitorial Technician is responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, and general upkeep of winery facilities, including tasting rooms, offices, restrooms, event spaces, and production-adjacent areas. This role supports a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for guests, visitors, and staff. The position may also assist with light sanitation support in and around production and cellar areas in coordination with the cellar and production teams. The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and awareness of food-safety and sanitation standards appropriate to a working winery. Travel may be required to clean all facilities in Napa, Escalon, Duck ranch, and Ceres.

Requirements

  • One (1) or more years of janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, pressure washers, and wet/dry vacuums.
  • Comfortable working around agricultural equipment, seasonal crush activity, and outdoor production areas.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, cleaning schedules, chemical labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and safety procedures.
  • Ability to identify and respond appropriately to spills, sanitation concerns, equipment issues, and workplace hazards.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and ability to complete assigned work accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication, professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and flexibility to meet changing operational and seasonal needs.
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment.
  • Stand and walk for most of the shift on varied surfaces; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, climb stairs, and use approved step stools or ladders.
  • Safely maneuver janitorial carts and equipment and perform repetitive grasping, gripping, and handling tasks.
  • Have the functional vision, hearing, balance, coordination, and mobility needed to read safety information, recognize hazards, and perform assigned duties safely.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in seasonal weather conditions and wear required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a winery, food and beverage, hospitality, or agricultural setting is a plus, but not required.
  • Basic familiarity with sanitation or food-safety practices (such as HACCP awareness or prior work in a licensed food or beverage facility) is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • Food handler certification, or willingness to obtain one within a specified period after hire, may be required depending on local regulations.
  • Any formal custodial, sanitation, or safety training (such as OSHA or bloodborne pathogens) is a plus, and will be provided as needed.
  • Knowledge of custodial methods, sanitation practices, contamination prevention, and safe operation of commercial cleaning equipment, or the ability to learn promptly.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of tasting rooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Clean, disinfect, inspect, and replenish public and employee restrooms.
  • Dust, clean, and disinfect furniture, tasting bars, display shelving, railings, door handles, fixtures, and other high-touch surfaces.
  • Clean interior and exterior glass, windows, doors, and entryways.
  • Collect, sort, and transport trash and recyclable materials to designated disposal areas.
  • Maintain patios, walkways, parking areas, and outdoor event spaces through sweeping, litter removal, spot cleaning, and prompt response to spills or unsafe conditions.
  • Set up, clean, and break down tables, chairs, cleaning stations, and related equipment for tastings, tours, meetings, and private events.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas, address identified deficiencies promptly and communicate recurring or significant concerns to the supervisor.
  • Clean, sweep, and hose down crush-pad areas, barrel-room walkways, and other production-adjacent spaces as assigned, coordinating with cellar and production personnel and following established sanitation protocols.
  • Clean and sanitize break rooms, locker rooms, employee facilities, and other shared areas used by production and cellar teams.
  • Support seasonal harvest operations by removing pomace, grape debris, and other by products from designated non-production areas.
  • Adhere to all posted sanitation, access-control, and contamination-prevention requirements when working near wine production, storage, barrel-aging, or food-service areas.
  • Respond promptly to spills and other sanitation needs, isolate affected areas when necessary, and follow established cleanup and reporting procedures.
  • Identify and promptly report leaks, mold, pest activity, damaged surfaces, equipment concerns, and other conditions requiring maintenance or corrective action.
  • Safely operate, inspect, clean, and store commercial cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, carpet extractors, and wet/dry vacuums.
  • Maintain accurate awareness of cleaning-supply and chemical inventory, restock assigned areas, and notify the supervisor before critical supplies are depleted.
  • Handle, dilute, label, store, and dispose of cleaning chemicals in accordance with product instructions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company safety procedures.
  • Use required personal protective equipment and implement wet-floor signs, barriers, and other safeguards to reduce exposure and prevent slips, trips, falls, and unauthorized entry into active cleaning areas.
  • Immediately report injuries, chemical exposures, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions, and assist with corrective actions within the scope of the role.
  • Complete assigned cleaning schedules, checklists, and related documentation accurately and on time.
  • Secure doors, gates, chemical storage areas, tools, and equipment, and turn off lights and equipment at the end of the shift as directed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, consistent with the position’s purpose and operational needs.
