About The Position

The Janitor performs a full range of janitorial assignments using limited judgment. Actions are normally determined by specific instructions from the supervisor or by following well-defined procedures, methods, and practices. Duties also include dusting, detailing, vacuuming, sanitizing, waxing, buffing and stripping floors, and cleaning restrooms, common areas, and windows.

Requirements

• Must use limited judgment.

• Ability to dust, detail, vacuum, sanitize, wax, buff, and strip floors.
• Ability to clean restrooms, common areas, and windows.
• Ability to mix water and detergents or acids to prepare cleaning solutions.
• Ability to notify managers of needed repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Ability to requisition supplies and equipment.
• Must wear appropriate safety equipment, which may include gloves and goggles.

Responsibilities

• Works safely at all times and follows all established safety guidelines and procedures.
• Empties waste baskets and removes trash.
• Dusts surfaces that collect dust.
• Cleans walls, windows and polishes metal surfaces.
• Cleans and polishes metal surfaces and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms.
• Replenishes restroom consumable supplies.
• Dry and wet mops hard-surface floors.
• Maintains and stocks janitorial closet at all times.
• Ensures that equipment is kept clean and reports any malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
• Follows established procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
• Performs other duties assigned by Store management.
