About The Position

The Janitor keeps the plant clean and orderly by cleaning offices, bathrooms, locker rooms, the exterior of the plant, and other assigned areas. The role follows safety rules and Standard Operating Procedures, maintains regular and punctual attendance, and communicates with other departments. The position also helps move files to storage and performs other duties as assigned. Work takes place in an industrial or warehouse environment, with concrete floors, exposure to noise and dust, periodic temperature extremes—including temperatures over 90 degrees—and occasional exposure to fumes from paints and coating-process chemicals. Some work areas are on the second or third floor, and a respirator is required for some job functions.

Requirements

High-school-level reading and writing skills, with visual acuity to read labels, documents, and instructions.
Ability to work in an industrial or warehouse environment with forklifts, drum trucks, and similar equipment.
Ability to safely operate small manual and electric hand tools.
Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, EOPs, and work rules, and to follow oral instructions.
Ability to communicate verbally or in writing with others.
Ability to squat, kneel, bend, or stoop frequently; reach or extend forward for long periods; walk or stand for extended periods; and ascend and descend stairs.
Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Stamina to work in extreme temperatures.
Use a respirator while performing some job functions.

Responsibilities

Follow safety rules and regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain regular and on-time attendance and communicate effectively with other departments, verbally and in writing.
Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum plant and office hallways and stairs.
Clean glass in the lobby and office.
Empty trash, garbage, recycling, and cigarette containers.
Maintain office and plant break rooms, bathrooms, and locker rooms; perform minor routine painting when needed.
Maintain the outside of the facility, including parking lots, and clear debris from sidewalks.
Report inventory of cups, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and janitorial supplies to the clerk.
Notify management about needed repairs, including lighting, plumbing, and electrical damage.
Help the clerk move files to the storage area.
Perform miscellaneous assignments and other duties as directed.
