About The Position

This is a part-time janitorial position requiring adherence to quality standards with minimal customer complaints. The role involves using various cleaning tools and chemicals, including heavy equipment for carpet cleaning and floor maintenance. The employee will follow building entry/exit procedures, maintain a healthy status, and refrain from using government equipment or disturbing personal items. Responsibilities include reporting maintenance issues, locking cleaned rooms, and handling found personal articles. Specific tasks involve chemical handling, dusting various surfaces, emptying trash receptacles, washing wastebaskets, cleaning furniture, dusting ledges and flat surfaces, spot cleaning, and maintaining restrooms. Floor maintenance includes wet/machine/damp mopping, stripping, sealing, and waxing. Carpet maintenance involves vacuuming, spot cleaning, and shampooing. Interior window cleaning, Venetian blind cleaning, and shade spot cleaning are also required. Drinking fountains, entrances, counters, sinks, and fixtures need regular cleaning. The role also includes responding to unscheduled cleaning requests and performing specialized cleaning tasks like guano removal in specific hangers and areas. The position requires the ability to follow instructions, demonstrate good customer relations, and work in various environments.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
3 months of general experience in progressively responsible housekeeping/sanitation or other work that applies particular knowledge and skills to perform the position.
United States Citizen or Permanent Resident
Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
Ability to pass a background check for the Federal Agency to obtain security access badging
Must be physically able to do their assigned work and shall be free of communicable diseases.
Must be able to utilize cleaning products, chemicals, vacuums, mops, wringers, dust tools, and floor machines.
Must be able to handle heavy equipment to do carpet cleaning, along with stripping and waxing floors.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrates good customer relationship skills.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of janitorial methods, practices, materials, tools, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the janitorial work.
Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures.

Responsibilities

Follow all rules and regulations relative to entering and leaving the building.
Report fires, hazardous conditions, and items in need of repair.
Lock specified rooms after cleaning and return keys.
Handle and mix chemicals according to established procedures.
Dust all desks, chairs, stands, bookcases, consoles, lockers, closet shelves, radiators, windowsills, doorsills, banisters, costumers, wall-mounted appurtenances, and other related equipment.
Remove all trash receptacles and replace liners, clean inside and outside of waste containers, and ensure they are free of odors.
Wash wastebaskets when needed.
Dust all furniture, removing dust, lint, and dry soil from wood furniture and using a brush or vacuum for fabric furniture.
Wash furniture to remove scuff marks and stains.
Dust ledges, counters, and other flat surfaces within reach or up to seven feet above the floor.
Spot clean smudges, fingerprints, marks, and streaks from washable surfaces of walls, partitions, doors, fixtures, light fixtures, elevator doors, and panels.
Clean and service restrooms, including toilets, urinals, washbasins, and associated fixtures, using appropriate cleaners and disinfectants.
Mop restroom floors using a solution containing a mild disinfectant.
Wash restroom walls and doors.
Clean and fill all restroom dispensers, ensuring sufficient supplies.
Clean mirrors until free of smudges and streaks.
Clean shower stall rooms and locker/dressing rooms.
Perform regular floor maintenance on hard floors, including sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping, dry buffing, spray buffing, stripping, and waxing.
Strip, seal, and re-wax floors.
Vacuum carpets, ensuring they are free of visible dust, litter, lint, paper, and soil.
Spot-clean carpet areas as necessary.
Shampoo carpets yearly using a commercially approved solution and the water extraction method.
Damp mop all stains and spills.
Spot clean lobby areas and remove any standing water.
Clean all interior glass surfaces, relights, cubicle glass, glass doors, mirrors, and adjacent trim yearly.
Clean Venetian blinds on an annual basis.
Damp wipe shades to remove soil and dust.
Clean, disinfect, and polish all drinking fountains and wash stations.
Clean entrance mats and sweep outside entrances and steps leading to each building.
Clean counters, sinks, and other fixtures.
Respond to service call requests for cleaning within 1 hour during regular working hours.
Clean the interior perimeters of Hangers 32 and 33 including all fire lanes to remove guano droppings on a weekly basis.
Clean walkways in both buildings, tops of walk-in freezers/refrigerators, and roof of the bone museum quarterly.
Vacuum floors and handrails using a vacuum with a HEPA filter.
Clean handrails using a spray solution to remove any guano residue.
