About The Position

The Janitor and Social Service position is designed to provide janitorial services to the facility programs and work for the Social Service Department half of the time to assemble and provide food boxes to the clients. The essential function of this position is to serve the needs of people in our community with dignity and respect. Conduct on and off the job must sustain a positive impact on The Salvation Army’s religious goals and public image.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Have janitorial experience.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • To maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Have acceptable MVR results according to policy.
  • Must have a valid California driver license.
  • Must be committed to The Salvation Army’s Christian Mission and Ministry.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated and team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential.
  • Must have a willingness and flexibility to learn and do new tasks.
  • Must possess multi-tasking skills.
  • Must possess good judgement skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have ability to set priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in social services programs such as food distribution, homeless services, senior programs, and other social services programs as needed.
  • Sort dry food can goods and keep refrigerated items in appropriate temperature.
  • Prepare food boxes for program with donation.
  • Pick up food boxes from warehouse as needed.
  • Coordinate volunteers making sure they are trained properly for making boxes or other.
  • Pick up donations from store as needed.
  • Follow USDA guidelines for food distribution and safety.
  • Assist in all Holiday events and help with distribution as needed.
  • Daily clean and maintain all rooms and meeting places.
  • Remove trash as needed.
  • Clean and restock all restrooms.
  • Keep outside areas free of trash and clutter.
  • Keep and inventory of cleaning supplies, restock as needed.
  • Clean all windows weekly.
  • Clean and maintain multipurpose room floor clean as needed.
  • Clean and maintain all floors and walls.
  • Keep janitorial room clean and organized.
  • Maintain rooms and doors closed and always locked when not in use.
  • Report facility damage and repair need to your supervisor.
  • Maintain Kitchen and Walk-in fridge clean and organized.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Corps Officer.
  • Other - especial projects as assigned by Corps Officers.
