About The Position

The Pomona Police Department is seeking motivated and service-driven individuals to join their team as a Jailer. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining the safety, security, and daily operations of the City’s Type I jail facility. Jailers work under general supervision and are responsible for booking, processing, and releasing inmates, monitoring inmate activity, conducting safety checks, maintaining accurate records, and handling inmate property and evidence. This position directly supports sworn personnel and is essential to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Police Department. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • One year of work experience.
  • Must possess a valid California class "C" driver's license.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Must obtain a State of California Corrections Officer Core Course Certificate within 12 months of employment.
  • Must obtain a PC832 Certificate within 12 months of employment.
  • New hires must successfully complete a Jailer CORE Correctional Academy approved by the Corrections Standards Authority and obtain a PC 832 certificate within the 12 month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Process and monitor inmates; receive, book, fingerprint, and photograph prisoners; perform prisoner classification and medical screening; determine inmate identity; verify and prepare custody verification forms for prisoners requiring medical treatment while in custody; properly collect D.N.A. from individuals.
  • Assume responsibility for the welfare and safety of all prisoners within the City jail facility; perform security, safety, and health checks of persons and facilities by conducting routine inspections.
  • Oversee the preparation of meals for those in custody; order and maintain inventory control of food and supplies.
  • Prepare prisoners for court arraignment by completing required booking forms, attaching copies of warrants, holds, and medical forms, returning clothing items, sealing prisoner property, and searching and handcuffing inmates prior to transportation to Court; transport prisoners to and from Court.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to jail operations.
  • Maintain supplies for Patrol including film, flares, mileage books, repair log (bogus operandi - B.O.) books, blankets, and resuscitators; receive and ensure all weapons are safety stored.
  • Assist Officers with belligerent prisoners and ensure safe handling.
  • Maintain an audio/video surveillance of booking counter.
  • Secure and release prisoners' property to authorized persons.
  • Handle visitations for prisoners by family, ministry, and attorneys.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the jail; perform minor jail and facility maintenance; clean and maintain jail laundry; assist trustees with laundry for prisoners.
  • Perform administrative support duties in other sections and bureaus within the Department as assigned.
  • Assist with subpoena service and document, package and message delivery.
  • Process prisoner releases by accepting bail and issuing notices to appear; process paperwork and documents used within the jail facility.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
