Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience. The Jail Cook performs work in planning and providing food related services within the County Detention Center. An employee in this class is responsible for the preparation and serving of food to inmates within the County Detention Center. The employee prepares, serves, sanitizes, and cleans the kitchen area. Work involves ordering, maintaining, and storing foods and supplies. This requires public contact in maintaining arrangements with various vendors in the purchase and delivery of food items. The employee follows a general menu established by Nutritionist but determines day-to-day regular and special menus based on availability and cost of supplies to fulfill the requirements of the program. Patience and firmness are required in frequent contacts with inmates. Work is performed under the direct supervision and is evaluated through observation, review of budgets, and quality of food served.
